Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. A child of Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents, and her family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen entered this loving sanctuary located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. She was the daughter of Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based company and was the owner of a portion in "The Shamrock Rovers," a renowned Irish soccer team. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athletic natural and was a fan of tough sports. Her talent for performing was a perfect complement to her interest in athletics. This was demonstrated by her receiving nearly every Feis awards for drama and the stage that her country had to offer. When she was 14, she had been admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
